Nature Recreation and Landscape Experience along the GR-Haspengouw Trail
Within the framework of the European Plattelands+ program, Regionaal Landschap Haspengouw en Voeren vzw is implementing a series of interventions aimed at strengthening regional identity and enhancing the tourism offer. A key initiative focuses on promoting nature-based recreation through the establishment of designated camping sites along the GR-Haspengouw—a 130-kilometer circular hiking route traversing the South Limburg landscape. These simple camping facilities enable hikers, cyclists, and families to set up tents for one or multiple nights, facilitating multi-day nature experiences and trekking activities.
Plant en Houtgoed managed the entire project, including concept development, design, landscape integration, technical detailing, and construction. The design prioritizes minimal ecological impact and fosters a strong connection with the surrounding ecosystem.
Five locations were equipped with overnight platforms, eco-toilets, hand pumps, and fire pits, all constructed from locally sourced oak wood characterized by its untreated and sustainable properties. This restrained infrastructure balances functional simplicity with ecological responsibility, creating authentic and immersive stay experiences within the Haspengouw landscape.
Natuurrecreatie en landschappelijke beleving langs de GR-Haspengouw
Binnen het Europees Plattelands+ programma ontwikkelt Regionaal Landschap Haspengouw en Voeren vzw een reeks interventies die streekidentiteit en toeristisch aanbod versterken. Een van de speerpunten is het stimuleren van natuur-recreatie door het inrichten van paalkampeerplaatsen langsheen de GR-Haspengouw — een 130 km lange lusvormige wandelroute door het Zuid-Limburgse landschap. Deze eenvoudige kampeerplekken maken het mogelijk voor wandelaars, fietsers of gezinnen om hun tent voor één of meerdere nachten op te zetten tijdens een trektocht of meerdaagse natuurervaring.
Plant en Houtgoed stond in voor het volledige traject: van conceptontwikkeling en vormgeving tot de landschappelijke inpassing, technische uitwerking en uitvoering. Bij het ontwerp lag de focus op minimale impact en maximale verbondenheid met het omliggende ecosysteem.
Vijf locaties werden uitgerust met een overnachtingsplatform, ecotoilet, handpomp en vuurplaats, opgebouwd uit lokaal eikenhout dat onbehandeld en duurzaam inzetbaar is. Deze ingetogen infrastructuur koppelt functionele eenvoud aan ecologische verantwoordelijkheid en maakt van elke plek een authentieke verblijfservaring in het Haspengouwse landschap.
